CARTERVILLE – The Lady Lions’ basketball team hosted McCracken County (KY) for their last home game on Tuesday night, and suffered a 65-33 loss.

McCracken drew first blood and opened a 9-0 lead within the first five minutes until senior Kristin Edmonds hit a 3-pointer to get the Lions on the board. Alecia Doyle (SR) added a field goal and two free throws to close out the 1st quarter, leaving the ladies trailing 19-7.

The Lions faired a little better throughout the 2nd quarter by putting up 12 points. Senior Kasha Ward, sophomore Amayah Doyle, and her sister Alecia accounted for the scoring. Ward led with seven points followed by the Doyle sisters collaboration of five points during this quarter.

The Mustangs’ Destiny Thomas netted eight points during the 2nd quarter with her fellow teammates’ contributions, making the halftime score 40-19 in favor of the Mustangs.

The Lady Lions posted 11 points in the 3rd quarter, capped off by an Edmonds 3-point basket with just under 30 seconds on the clock. McCracken brought in 16 points during this quarter, leading with a score of 56-30.

With a slow-moving 4th quarter, not much scoring occurred. Junior Hunter Noto and senior Deidra Rogers brought in the final points for the Lady Lions. McCracken added 9 points to their leading total, ending the game with a final of 65-33.

The Lady Lions next take the court at Pinckneyville on Wednesday, February 9th. JV starts at 6:15 with varsity to follow.
