CARTERVILLE – The Carterville Lions baseball team defeated the Sparta Bulldogs on Wednesday, April 3. Despite the rain, wind, and cold, the Lions were able to take the win at home 2-0.

The Lions got off to a strong start by plating two runs on the Bulldogs with 2 hits in the first ending.

Parker Poole went up to bat with the bases loaded and scored the two runners in with a single to right field.

With a two run lead, Drew Barrington took the mound and shut the Bulldogs out with a complete game. Barrington struck out five batters and only allowed one hit during his seven innings of work.

Carterville also recorded hits from Branden Skelcher and Tyler Jack, while Sklecher and Barrington combine for three stolen basses.

The boys look to make it a three game win streak when they face Harrisburg at home on Friday, April 5.
