2018 was the year for a variety of movies making their way into the light. Movies from horror to comedy caused many different opinions. Every genre such as horror, action, and comedy had hits this year, where they spent time in the spotlight. The way theses movie made people-that watch them- feel many different emotions. What made these movies such hit was the way it left the watcher in there seats.

In 2018, the action genre was the highest grossing genre, with a total of over 4.1 billion. Black Panther had sold the most tickets and was the highest grossing action movie. Rotten tomatoes critic Andrea Thompson gives the movie a 9.5/10, stating that, “Black Panther is one of the richest, most vibrant, world building [works] I’ve ever seen on the big screen, with a story that embraces African customs and life in a way that makes no apologies.” Other movies in this genre such as Avengers: Infinity War, Deadpool 2, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom have had the same reactions. This goes to show that the action category never fails the audience.

As for the horror genre, it truly proved to be everything that it set out to be. There were some movies that didn’t quite deliver, but in the end, really succeeded. This specific genre’s success was due to the end of the year blockbuster hits, one being Halloween. Halloween was a major accomplishment because it was an unexpected sequel to the series. Although critics didn’t like it very much, such as critic Aaron Dicer who states, “Unfortunately the pile of corpses isn’t the only thing in this movie that is lifeless. Even with a few clever nods, there isn’t enough to interest many beyond the horror faithful”, this movie was still a hit in the box office with a gross of over 100 million.

The most uncommon genre of the year had to be comedy, due to the lack of triumphs in this department, but the movies that did excel proved to be worthy and really made an impact. Some of those movies consist of Blockers, Tag, and Night School.

Overall, 2018 was a roller coaster of a year for the movie industry, but in the end they all changed the game. In the future years, it will definitely be hard to exceed the amount of success that 2018 made.
