Christopher Columbus: a terrible person?

Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus’s real name was Cristoforo Columbo, he was born in 1457 to a family of wool weavers in the Republic of Genoa, part of what is now Italy. He went to sea early land was an experienced sailor in his twenties. He Discovered America in 1492 at 41 years old. But sadly, he died on May 20, 1506, thinking he made it to India. At least that’s what everybody says, the real person who discovered America was Leif Erikson, not Columbus. To say he’s a fraud is an understatement.

Columbus ordered 1500 men and women captured, letting 400 go and condemning 500 to be sent to Spain, and another 600 to be enslaved by Spanish men on the island. About 200 of the 500 died on the voyage and were thrown into the Atlantic, but that’s not the worst he’s done. He landed on Taino, and the people treated them with great hospitality they repaid their kindness with 17 ships and 1200 men so he could enslave them and steal their gold. The article “9 Reasons Christopher Columbus was a murderer, tyrant, and scoundrel” it said “They would make fine servants with fifty men we could subjugate them all and make them do whatever we want.”

“Even If you were to overlook the not-so-minor fact that millions of people were already living in the Americas in 1492,  the fact is that Columbus never set foot on the shores of North America (Hero or Villain?).”

They said that Columbus didn’t discover America. They might teach you in school that he did, but the person in America was named Leif Erikson, and they teach you that he found the earth was round, the Earth being round in that time was already common knowledge they were selling globes. Columbus didn’t do anything but murder innocent people and steal their land.

Statues of Christopher Columbus all over the world have been torn down, beheaded, and covered in red paint, it’s mostly happening in Virginia they took down the statue, and carried it 200 feet before throwing it into a nearby fountain. So not everyone agrees with Columbus Day and has heard of the things he’s done.

So even though kids got taught in school that he was a brave sailor who discovered America and proved the earth was round, really all he was, was a man who killed innocent people and put them into slavery, stole lands, and got claimed as a good man, by a man that wanted to write a book and added a little twist to his story. So on the next Columbus Day, remember all he did to the innocent kids, women, and men.

And when someone says “Christopher Columbus was a brave sailor that sailed the ocean blue in 1492.” Let them know what he really did and how much of a bad person he was.
