Lions Baseball Dominates the Warriors

Lions Baseball Dominates the Warriors

CARTERVILLE – The Carterville Lions baseball team played the Steeleville Warriors in a one-sided game that ended with a 9-2 win.

The game started favorably for the Warriors, as they put together a couple of hits that loaded the bases in the top of the first inning. The Lions’ gritty defense stopped the Warriors from scoring, leading them to the bottom of the first inning.

The Lions’ scrappy offensive was on full display in the second inning, with sophomore Alex Lyell crossing the plate from a single by senior Emerson Doan. The Warriors responded with two runs in the next inning, but the Lions quickly regained their dominance, scoring five runs in the following two innings, bringing the score to a commanding 6-2 in the Lions favor.

From there, the Lions never looked back, scoring three more runs to defeat the Warriors 9-2.

When asked how he felt about scoring the first run to give his team the lead, Lyell said, “I led off the inning, and I got on base, so I knew I had to score somehow to give my team the lead.”
