Should Social Media be presented to kids at an early age?

Is it harming teenagers who had social media earlier?

Little kids having social media at a very young age?

Nowadays the most popular activity that teens do is be on their phones, about 90% of teens use their phone daily. Yes, there is still that 10% of teens that could be doing something else but that doesn’t change how many teens are on social media constantly.

Why is the percentage so high? It’s not just teens being on social media, but what causes the percentage of teens to be so high up is that parents are giving their kids cellular devices at a very young age. This leads to the younger kid receiving social media at a young age to turn into a teenager who will spend hours and hours on social media rather than spending time with friends or family it kind of isolates the teen making them lose valuable time in their teen life.

Not only is social media taking away from a teenager or a kid, but social media has its pros and cons. Cons being that social media has many dangerous predators that could easily endanger little kids and make them do something unlikely, not only that social media can cause cyberbullying and make a teenager depressed on how they look like, what they do, who they choose to hangout with. Anything that a teenager does will always get judged because other people like to bring others down. Carterville High School junior Carolann Iaccino states, “I don’t think teenagers should have social media until they’re 18. I think this because there are the wrong people on social media that may target the younger audience.“

Sophomore William Bailey also says “In my opinion, social media is helping teenagers find community and comfort. While it’s helping them with that, it’s also worsening their mental health. I think that it’s becoming very progressive, but at the same time too harmful for young kids.”
