CARTERVILLE – The Lady Lions basketball team took the win against Mt. Vernon yesterday in the Mid-Winter Classic semi-final game. The Lions won 61-50 and are heading to the Championship game on Saturday.

The Lions started behind, trailing after the first quarter 17-14. The second quarter brought crucial three-point shots by Khamari Jackson and Amayah Doyle, allowing the Lions to gain momentum. The Lions were ahead 30-27 at halftime.

“It’s really easy to keep the positive energy going when you have a good team and bench to back[ing] you up,” said Jackson on her positive mindset throughout the game.

The Lions continued to battle for the lead into the third quarter. Cadence Phillips continued the trend of three-pointers, making the score 35-35. This final push was what the Lions needed to overcome the Rams in the fourth quarter.

The Carterville Lions will face off against Massac in the Mid-Winter Classic championship at 2:00 on Saturday.
