The Carterville High School Volleyball team currently has two sibling duos. These sibling duos are the twins sophomores Haley and Hannah Dueker as well as senior Sydne and freshman Mia Congiardo. Sydne and Mia both play varsity, but Mia starts as a middle hitter while Sydne specializes as the libero in the back row.
There are some hard things about being on a team with a sibling such as they might get tired of them or argue on the court, but there are definitely some very positive parts too. Sydne Congiardo said her favorite part of being on a team with her sibling is that “It’s really rewarding getting to see her succeed and grow.”
Meanwhile, Mia claims that her favorite part of being on a team with her sibling is that “I always feel supported by her, and I know that she’s proud of me.”
Twin Haley Dueker said “We go through all of the ups and downs together and I feel like there’s always someone there to support me.” On the other hand, sister Hannah feels that her favorite part of them being on a team together is “…celebrating and feeding off of each other’s positivity.”
Being on a team with your sibling definitely requires some dedication and patience. Sydne Congiardo believes that the worst part about having her sister Mia on the team is that “It is hard to balance between putting on my sister hat and putting on my captain hat.”
This is a great reason because, as a sibling, they have to remember that they’re still on a team and working toward the same goal, but it still has to be balanced out with sibling love. Meanwhile, Mia says that her least favorite part about being on a team with her sibling is that “I feel like because I’m her sibling, she feels like she can be more bossy to me.”
For the Dueker twins, Haley says “She always gives me a look and knows when I do something wrong.”
Hannah said that her least favorite part is “On the huddle, they cannot tell us apart.”
