One of the most exciting things during the week of Homecoming is hallway decorating. Hallway decorating is a competition between all of the class grades, and at the end of the week, one hallway is voted as the winner. Junior Kilea Peairs said, “It’s fun to find out who wins even if it is not our class grade we still get to congratulate and support the winners and hope that we will win next year.”
Hallway decorating is seeing how well everyone is able to work together and who can make it look the best within the 3 hour allotted time limit. Even if something doesn’t work, it’s how everyone tries to fix it and make it look good.
Hallway decorating is everyone’s favorite time of the year because everyone gets to come together and make decorations to fill up a hallway and hope to win the best decorated hallway. Junior Mikayla Oetjen said, “A fun thing during hallway decorating is deciding how it’s getting decorated and who is doing what and how long it is going to take and just planning it out in general is the best part.”
Trying to figure out how to incorporate the theme of the dance into the decorations can pose a challenge for students, too. Even if a class can’t fit the theme, it is just seeing what you can do with the space you as senior Marlee Rosenbery said, “The theme was chosen to be Art Deco. We decided to do a lot of buildings and a sunset. We also made a palm tree with balloons and paper.”
After hallway decorating, students and staff are able to look around and see how everyone made everything come together. Then, everyone starts to appreciate all the hard work that others put in and just to get the end result to look amazing. Junior Tapanga Scott said, “The fun thing about hallway decorating is that when it’s done I get to walk around and look and see what the other classes did and see the cool decorations for their theme.”
Hallway decorating was a school tradition that began during the covid-19 pandemic and continues to be a favorite tradition among students and staff.
