As the weather begins to cool, families in Carterville begin to settle down for the winter. One of the festivities that comes with the season is Christmas in Carterville, a yearly tradition that people throughout the area take part in. This event returns for the second time since COVID-19 and was held in downtown Carterville on December 8.

There were many festivities that people could partake in, one of the favorites being the carousel. Not only that but many different businesses based in Carterville gave out different types of treats, such as popcorn, candy canes, and hot chocolate for free. While community members roamed the town with their snacks, all could feel the Christmas spirit around them. Different beloved Christmas songs could be heard in the surrounding areas. Caydence Walton, a freshman at CHS, went to Christmas in Carterville for the first time this year. She mentions how, “Even while strolling around you could hear the music clearly, but it wasn’t to the point that it was overbearing.”

Another individual who went to this event was Alexis McClellan, a sophomore at Carterville High School who said, “I enjoyed the duck game where little kids were able to win little prizes.” All of the kids seem to enjoy the majority of the activities, their excitement and cheerfulness could both be seen and heard throughout the entire town.

Christmas in Carterville has been a staple for locals during the winter holidays, it is known as a spectacular event to spend time celebrating the coming of winter with all of the people around you. This event kicks off the start of great winter holidays, and to that, Carterville High School publications wishes everyone a safe and wonderful time as the new year approaches.
