CARTERVILLE – The Carterville Lions baseball team hosted the Nashville Hornets Tuesday night in a regular season conference game.

The Lions earned a hard-fought 6-4 win against the Hornets, breaking Nashville’s previously undefeated record in conference play. The win leaves the Lions with an overall record of 10-7 and 3-4 in the conference.

The strong offensive performance for the Lions helped them put six runs on the board. A big triple by Blake Barnard in the bottom of the 5th inning gave the Lions a 6-4 lead.

Junior pitcher Brady Phillips had a very strong performance on the mound throwing into the 6th inning, hitting his pitch count on the last few batters before being relieved by Peyton Bittle to close things out.

Phillips finished the game allowing 4 runs with 14 strikeouts and 2 walks.

“The team gave me some good run support and I was able to go out there and pitch with confidence,” said Phillips.

The Lions will continue their season this weekend heading to Graves County, Kentucky, to play in a two-day tournament.
