CARTERVILLE – The Lady Lions won a big conference game against the Pinckneyville Panthers on Tuesday night. Carterville shut down the Panthers with strong serves, defense, and kills in three sets. (26-24, 23-25, 25-13). 

The Lions came out hitting in the first set. Senior Maryn Vaughn led the game with a total of 11 kills and Ally Lange followed with 10 kills. Vaughn had a big hit in the first set which brought the score to 7-6, Panthers. Senior Rylee Davis also had a kill off the block bringing the score to 16-15. As the first set came to an end, junior Sydne Congiardo aced the Panthers to leave the final score to 26-24. 

In the second set, the Lady Lions focused primarily on their defense. Senior Reese Brunken had a total of 16 digs followed up with senior Hannah Tran who had 14 digs. Brunken also had a six point serve run in the third set bringing the score to 12-2 Lions. 

The last point of the game was a great one for Carterville. With a swing into the strong Panther block, Tran got an amazing touch on coverage to give Lange the last kill of the game. Which ended the 3rd set 25-13, in favor of the Lions.
