CARTERVILLE – The Lady Lions won 10-0 against the Anna-Jonesboro wildcats Monday afternoon to secure another win to their 16-2 record.

The top of the 1st inning began with three straight strikeouts from starting pitcher Lacie Carr. This allowed the Lions to start with some momentum going into the bottom of the 1st. After being walked, Amayah Doyle advanced to 3rd with a double off the bat of Kennedy Rushing. Carr was next up to bat and she took advantage of it, hitting a single which scored two runs for the Lions. Two flyouts paired with a groundout made for the end of the 1st, leaving the score 2-0.

The 2nd inning started with another pair of strikeouts from Carr. She then walked #17, Hallie Plott but was able to make up for it with another strikeout to end the top of the 2nd.

Then it was Avi Tomas’ turn at the plate as she managed to hit a double of her own. After stealing 3rd base, Tomas was able to score a run for the Lions thanks to a base hit from Macey Lentz. The Lions finished the 2nd inning with 2 scored runs after a Doyle base hit. The score read 4-0.

The 3rd inning was a great one for the Lady Lions as they started with a single from Hunter Noto. Karson Caudill was able to bring in Noto with a triple. Additionally, Tomas hit a single to bring in Caudill paired with another hit by Doyle, bringing in Lentz to score at home. The Lions remained on top with a score of 8-0 against the Wildcats.

Fast forward to the 5th inning and Katie Keirn came in to relieve Carr. After two strikeouts from Keirn, it was shown that Doyle was definitely giving her all for her team as she made an amazing diving catch at 3rd to end the top of the 5th.

When asked about the catch Doyle said, “It felt good that I could do something to help my team win. No one but God was on my side and helped me see that ball!”

The Lions finished out the game 10-0 against the Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats.

The Lady Lions play again on April 23rd in a Round Robin against Olney and Carmi White County. If you wish to keep up with Carterville Softball, and other Spring sports, make sure to check us out on Instagram and Twitter @CartervilleAth.
