A Sit-Down With Amanda Howerton

A Sit-Down With Amanda Howerton

Dani Scott, Sports Reporter

Amanda Howertown is a senior athlete this year at CHS and served as one of the volleyball team captains this season. She overcame hardships in her earlier career and helped lead the team to break their win record alongside taking the team deeper into the playoffs than ever before.  The volleyball team won Conference, Regionals, and then competed in the Super-Sectional Championship. We sat down with Howerton Thursday, Nov. 18th as she reflected on her high school career.

Has there ever been a time that you considered quitting? Why or why not?

Yes, in the middle of my sophomore year during the season it was a pretty miserable time for me for a lot of different reasons. I was not planning on coming back to play school ball my junior season, but things changed for the better. I am very happy I decided to continue playing for CHS.

Do you think you are a leader?

I would say yes. I was a team captain this year. I was also put in a position last year as well where I needed to step up on the court, make plays, and encourage my teammates on and off the court.

What are some lessons volleyball has taught you?

Probably that I can get anything I want if I work hard enough for it. I have been put in so many different positions where my athleticism or skill has been discounted. So I go out and work harder than everybody else so I can achieve what I want.

What is a lifelong friendship you have made playing volleyball?

The person I have spent the most time with by far is Bella Mavigliano, co-captain this year. I was friends with her before, but because of the sport, we grew closer than ever before.

Any memorable plays you have made? What are they?

My all-time favorite play is was during the regional championship. We were down 18-15 and we got the next point, then I went on a serving run, and then we ended up winning the game. It was crazy with my home crowd behind me. To be able to do something like that is something I will remember forever.
