SESSER – The Carterville Varsity Volleyball team started their season off right Tuesday night with a win against Sesser-Valier. The Lions won in only two sets and had a solid first showing. The second set was a close game until Amanda Howerton served 4 straight points in a row, allowing the Lady Lions to finalize the win.

Tuesday was a good display of the Lions’ hitting staff, with 15 kills during both sets. When head coach, Nathan Emrick, was asked about his opinion on the game, he explained that he feels he can trust all his players, especially his front row, to get the job done.

Bella Mavigliano hit a total of nine kills and Ally Lange added six of her own. Libero, Taylor Wallace, achieved a total of 4 aces during Tuesday’s match. CHS started the first set with two kills hit by Mavigliano. It was a similar trend in set two, with the match getting started by consecutive kills. Regan Eigenrauch and Lange reigned dominant throughout the final set to secure the win.

Volleyball’s next game is Thursday night at Carbondale High School. Freshmen tip-off at 5:00 with JV and Varsity following after.
