Staying Fit During Quarantine

Josh Levins, Staff Writer

“Without a doubt, these are unfortunate times for everyone, and everyone has an out if they want it. This still doesn’t change the fact that you ‘reap what you sow’. If you are exercising with purpose, finding ways to continue to push yourself to new limits, then you will be leaps and bounds ahead of the ones that don’t. Take pride in being the best version of you that you can be, and don’t let this current pandemic dictate your health and future. What you decide to do when no one is looking is what will help you be successful when this is over. Currently, our opponent has taken away workout facilities and limited your options. But it is not keeping you from exercising and bettering yourself. Find new ways to achieve your goals, and continue to raise the bar. Life is full of challenges to get you out of your comfort zone. Growing to your maximum potential is going to require you to get out of your comfort zone. When this goes away, and it will go away, did this pandemic make you take steps forward or backward?” (Coach Sean Jeralds)

I, for one, would like to take steps forward and better improve myself. Here are just a few things I do myself, and some recommendations in order to keep your strength.

Firstly, make yourself a schedule and stick to it. Staying up late and sleeping in may sound like a great idea, but when you do have to go back to your regular life it will wreak havoc on your body. “The hardest part about all of this is trying to find some level of normalcy, I think that the most normal thing I have is being able to keep myself on a schedule” (Katie Kuntze 11). Have a sleep schedule, you don’t have to get up as early as you would for a normal school day, but I would recommend being up around 9 o’clock at the latest. Also, factor in all of your schoolwork and about an hour to work out in a schedule, and make sure you stick to it.

One of my biggest problems was trying to write my own workout plans. Thankfully, this was remedied by Coach Jeralds, and you can access his wiki which has workout plans in the link below. Coach Jeralds has taken the time to write an at home workout that takes about 30-45 minutes to complete. It makes sure you keep your gains, and stay fit. Everything is self-explanatory, and if you don’t know how to do something you can google it and find out rather easily. To my surprise, the workout is a bit challenging, but it is still fun and gives you something to do besides watch Netflix all day.

The best way to stay fit during a quarantine is to make a schedule and stick to it. It is also important to use all of your resources and find good workout plans whether it be Coach Jeralds,or just using google. Also, do not forget to stretch, while it may seem like a chore, it’s very important to ensure that you don’t injure yourself. Stay safe, stay home, and stay fit.
