Everywhere you look, there’s another trend. Whether that be fashion, a dance, challenges, or a saying. Many of these trends start from social media and spread quickly, especially with the amount of teens and young adults who use social media on a daily basis. A lot of people are supportive of these trends online, but what’s their real opinions on them?
One trend that’s been very popular lately is water bottles. There are many different types of water bottles, but the two that are trending currently are Stanley’s and Owala’s. These water bottles range anywhere from $25 to $50, and hold more water than the average water bottle. However, due to the high prices for a water bottle, some students think that the trend is ridiculous. Since all water bottles can hold liquid, there is no need to buy an expensive one just because it’s trending. CHS junior Isabelle Bailey said, “There’s nothing cool or trendy about Owalas or Stanleys, it’s just overpriced marketing.”
Another trend that’s taken over social media is AI generated videos and shows, such as “Fruit Love Island”. “Fruit Love Island” is essentially an AI generated version of the TV show, “Love Island”, except the characters are replaced by fruits. This show has taken over social media, with most viewers seeming to love the show and post about not being able to wait for the next season. On the other hand, many people believe that the show isn’t as good as everyone’s making it out to be and people are just pretending to like it because it’s popular. Sophomore Sophia Cottrell said, “It’s AI slop that’s destroying our planet, and it’s not even good. The voices sound like trash and the characters don’t even look the same throughout the scenes.”
A restaurant that has gained a lot of popularity lately is Raising Cane’s. A new Cane’s location, along with a few other restaurants, have recently opened in Marion, giving students in surrounding towns a new spot to hang out and eat after school. Raising Cane’s is loved by many students, although some students think the food isn’t as good as everyone says, and there’s not a very big variety of things on their menu. Freshman Lilah Mowrer said, “All they have is chicken and normally their food is dry and just not good.”
All of these trends–and more–have been coming and going throughout the years, with people having all sorts of different opinions about them. Trends move fast, but the frustration they can cause often sticks around much longer. The trends usually fade away and are replaced by something just as strange. Soon enough, these trends will be something everyone will look back about later.
