The social media app TikTok is extremely prominent in the lives of students, and, as with all social media, there are trends. Trends can be seen in almost every aspect of any social media platform, whether the app be targeted toward older or younger people. Trends can vary from things like dances, songs, food, or phrases, but phrases tend to stay around a lot longer than the rest. Some trending phrases can stick around for years, and people can have conflicting opinions on them, but what trends are chs students truly sick of?

Trends such as the camera flip trends, or targeting “outsiders,” and less popular students are extremely common. In these trends, one person degrades another, but they are common as they get a lot of hate, and, therefore, views. People comment on the video, which pushes it out to other people. Other people will see this video and see how many views it gets and then they copy it, thinking about the amount of likes or popularity it could get them instead of thinking about how it could affect the person recording them.

“I’m tired of seeing the TikTok trend where they have a random, sometimes homeless, person record them then they hold their nose and shake their head and flip the camera so you see the person recording them. I dislike this because it’s just another way to make fun of someone else, especially an innocent person who did nothing wrong but record them,” sophomore Kylie Davey said.

Certain audios are normally associated with trends, but if not audios themselves then a certain phrase. Currently, “six-seven” is the most widely known phrase, but there are also plenty of audios.

An extremely popular TikTok audio that’s going around is from a skit created by Key & Peele. Although there are plenty of school appropriate audios, most ones students are sick of consists of songs with uncomfortable lyrics or dances that go alongside those audios.

When students were asked the questions, “What TikTok audios are you sick of hearing? And why?” The most popular response was, “Any of them that have a really weird and creepy song that everyone agrees is weird and yet you still hear the same song on every other video,” sophomore Abby Hovenga said.

TikTok is an extremely prominent social media platform with the kids of today. They consume media and trends both good and bad, and some people partake in said trends even if others may find them annoying.
