Holiday Highlights

The holiday season has brought a wave of excitement to Carterville High School, filling the halls with energy as students wrap up the semester. From festive events to community projects, this year’s celebration highlighted the Lions strong sense of pride and community .

Carterville High School kicked off December with its annual winter spirit week, only occurring on Fridays til the week of finals. This gives students the opportunity to show off their creativity through themed outfits and friendly competitions. Each Friday brought something different, Mad about Plaid, Deck the Halls Out, Naughty or Nice, Holly Jolly Holidays and Pajama Days on the day of finals as the semester comes to an end.“My favorite day of the Christmas dress up days was the Deck yourself out in full Christmas attire,” senior Cameron Gossett said.

One of the biggest moments of the month was the Christmas Light Parade. This brought the community together along with the Carterville Pride of the Lions Marching Band, winter guard, and the Carterville Lions Club winners. The school gets involved with the community through many clubs and activities participating.

Not only was the band and dance, lion club winners, and the dance team there, Carterville Student Council was also there. They were dressed up as reindeer, the school mascot, and Bluey.

Clubs and organizations at the school also hosted toy drives, and the boys basketball team helped out at the food drive for their community service. The strong participation showed how dedicated CHS students are making a positive impact on the school walls. Freshman Joplin Harrison said,”Seeing how many students donated was really inspiring, it shows that Carterville students genuinely care about the community.”

As the semester winds down, Carterville High School reflects on a season filled with connection, celebration, and community. Whether students enjoyed the festive atmosphere, this year’s holiday highlight captured the heart of what it means to be a Lion.“Its a busy time of year, but it always reminds us how strong our CHS community is,” freshman Lizzy Moorehead said.

Through all of the festivities during winter, many students said the events helped them feel more connected to their school, community and classmates, bringing everyone closer than ever. The combination of traditions, performances, and acts of service created a memorable season that students will carry with them into the new year.
