With Christmas right around the corner, CHS is preparing by participating in dress up days. On Friday, December 5, students and teachers wore flannels to school in order to kick off the celebration. “I love dressing up because it reminds me that Christmas will be here very soon, and it is my favorite holiday! Also, it is my last year to do things like this in high school, so I always try to dress up for them when I can,” senior Savannah Gibbs said.
For any student who was unaware of the festivities, there are still days left for more dress up. On Friday, December 12, students are encouraged to deck themselves out in full Christmas gear. Furthermore, during finals week, there is a schedule for dressing up every day that can be found here, or posted on the bulletin board in the lobby.
“I did not dress up last Friday, mainly because I did not realize I should have, but during the days we actually take finals, I plan to dress up. I do those days because they are pajama days, and it makes taking tests so much easier when I am comfortable,” sophomore Peyton Applehans said.
Pajama days seem to be the days with the most participation from everyone that attends. Students find it easy to just wake up and come to school, not worried about an outfit. “After the stress of studying all week, I usually roll out of bed and come to school without getting super ready,” junior Adie Sykes said.
Although dressing up is a school-wide event, some classes and/or advisories are having their own parties. Since there is only advisory during the week of finals, teachers like to motivate their students then. “My advisor has thrown a party since freshman year, and it helps me get through all of my tests. Mrs. Emrick usually brings in pizza while the rest of the class brings items such as cookies or chips,” said senior Joanna Lee.
Whether they are dressing up or enjoying a holiday treat, all staff and students can experience the Christmas magic at school. It may be different from experiences in elementary school because of big tests, but happiness is still kept alive, no matter what. With less than two weeks left until winter break officially starts, everyone at CHS is ready to make finals season a little bit better by spreading Christmas cheer.
