Thanksgiving is not just about turkey at Carterville. It’s about traditions, travel, and taking a break from the fast-paced school environment. From students flying across the country to see family, to enjoying their Thanksgiving plate, everyone has traditions and stories to tell about how they celebrate.

Some students deeply enjoy sitting down and eating with their family.  When asked what her favorite kind of pie was, Mallory Beach said, “Pumpkin pie is definitely my favorite. I love pumpkin pie because it reminds me of baking with my mom. She gave me her top secret recipe; it’s the best! I make it every year for Thanksgiving dinner.”

Thanksgiving is a time to appreciate family, friends, pets, or even your favorite ice cream. Whatever it is, it is important to let the special people in your life know you’re thankful for them. Taking a moment to share your appreciation for someone can strengthen your bond and create memories. Even a small gesture, like a hug, smile, or high five, can make a big difference.

A lot of students are grateful for things that get them through the school day. When prompted with the question of what she is thankful for, Katelyn Wallen said, “Alanis. They give me so much energy and help me wake up in the morning.”

Alexis McClellan, a senior, said, “I’m so very thankful for my family, mostly, but also this school, honestly. Carterville High School has many amazing people and a variety of programs for those interested. They appeal to almost anyone and are always open to suggestions. Also, the teachers and the environment they create I am so thankful for. They show me so much patience and give me leniency when needed. I also like the extracurricular activities… The amazing people in this school showed me golf, taught me how to get better, and gave me one of my favorite things to do. Carterville High School is definitely something I am thankful for.”

Thanksgiving means a lot to the students at Carterville. They love to travel, enjoying the food, and most importantly, a break from the fast-paced school environment. Some families live far away, so he definitely enjoys getting to see them. Most importantly, letting everyone know he’s thankful for them.
