After four years of dedication, hard work, and countless serves, Colbie Bennett had her final game as a senior on the volleyball team. Bennett has been playing varsity since her sophomore year. Throughout the years Bennett has had countless opportunities to improve on her skills and tactics within a game.
One of the things she has struggled with since freshman year has been her hitting, perception on when to hit the ball, and her passing. “Since freshman year, I have improved on my hitting, and knowing when to hit it hard or being smart on when to hit it and where to hit it. My passing has also improved tremendously,” Bennett said.
As a senior Bennett has had to help the underclassman with plays and help them with understanding how the team works during a game. “I helped the younger girls out when they asked me questions. And I assumed most of the responsibility would fall onto one healthy senior so I did my best to take some of the weight off the coaches and tried to help them out the most that I could,” Bennett said.
Bennett began playing volleyball in junior high, after watching the older girls and realizing how competitive the sport can be. Volleyball has taught Bennett many lessons, discipline, communication, and how to stay calm under pressure. It has also taught her that dedication is important and is what she needs to get better at the game and help her team win each game. “Volleyball has really taught me how to communicate better with others and help my team and I win the games,” said Bennett.
“My favorite bonding moments were the times on the bus where we would all laugh and sing, especially after a win,” Bennett said.
Although Bennett has been playing volleyball for a very long time, and enjoys it a lot, she does not plan on continuing her volleyball career throughout college. “I have had a lot of fun with the team this year and the years prior. I am going to miss volleyball tremendously. I am so very grateful for this amazing team and the great season we’ve had,” Bennett said.
