With the transition of incoming freshmen this year, Carterville High school added a new Agriculture Club (CASE) to their program. This Agriculture Club is run by Mrs. Tuthill.

The purpose of this club is to encourage agriculture among students. Previously, several students wanted to do things like FFA. Unfortunately, the high school couldn’t accommodate this. So, an Agriculture Club was the next best option.

Getting a new club’s name out there can be challenging, so Mrs. Tuthill is trying to find farming-and-agricultural-themed activities that students are interested in. In some cases, it can be hard to keep members engaged, but Mrs. Tuthill is working tirelessly to find activities that really engage them.

There are quite a few students in the Agriculture Club. Sophomore Lucy Gossett is one of those students. Gossett said, “I wanted to join Carterville Agriculture Science Education because Carterville is one out of three surrounding schools that did not previously have an agriculture club. I had mentioned making a Carterville FFA, or something with Agriculture, so Mrs. Tuthill decided she would start a club.”

Gossett also said, “I do have experience with agriculture because my family grew up on land that we had to take care of as well as the farm animals. To this club, I have brought my knowledge of agriculture, the land for our animals, and our livestock. I have volunteered to make our shirts, so they could be made by a member of the group. Since I am making the shirts, we will have leftover money to spend on other fun things for the club.”

Lastly, Gossett said, “This club can benefit me personally and academically because I can bring so many ideas to the table, and I have been working with agriculture since I was very little due to me helping with animals at the fair as well as on my farm.”

Mrs. Tuthill is doing things to try and keep the members of the club interested. As the Agriculture Club continues to grow and establish itself in CHS, its members are looking forward to the knowledge and many fun experiences it will bring them.

Cameron is a freshman here at Carterville High School, and he got inspired to do HS Publications by his sister, Nevaeh McClellan who was in the class for her whole 4 years of high school.  Cameron just really wanted to be included in this class, because he was interested in the fact that he could help make the yearbook and get to take photos that could possibly get into the yearbook.
