Jostens Rep.

This year in High School Publications on August 20, most of the staffers went on a field trip to Jostens in Clarksville, TN for a tour of the publishing plant. Everyone else on the bus ride there was either talking to their friends, napping, or just scrolling on their phones until the ride was over.

All of the staffers that went were given the privilege to tour the plant by some employees from Jostens. A fellow publications staffer, sophomore Abby Hovenga said,The Jostens Yearbook plant was what I was expecting except for how big and loud it is.”

Only 2 out of the 16 staffers didn’t go on the tour, but everyone else got to see yearbook pages in the process of getting printed out, colored, and put together.  Jostens also showed everyone that they only use four colors, cyan, magenta, yellow, and then the key color which is black.

Staffers got to look around in the room where they had hundreds of yearbooks from many different states and districts, so that all of the staffers could get inspiration for the yearbook this year.

The yearbook staff picked up the yearbooks from the 2024-2025 school year and got to get a first look at them all printed out. Publications staffer and social media editor senior Alexis McClellan said, I really loved how they turned out.”

On the bus ride back to the high school, most people were sleeping, playing on their phones, or just sitting on the bus eating snacks with their friends. When they got back, they had to unload the bus, which held all of the new yearbooks. The staff had a former publications staffer, Nevaeh McClellan, to help them and it went by a lot quicker.

On this year’s yearbook distribution day, the students got to work together and work on teamwork while passing out the books.  Everyone got into groups of two with one person crossing off names as students picked up their yearbook and the other handing out the yearbooks. This included passing out yearbooks that were personalized and not personalized. My favorite part of the yearbook was the fall and spring section with the quotes and descriptions for each activity. My favorite part of distribution was looking through the yearbook with my friends,” sophomore Kaitlyn Gossett said.

The CHS yearbook is a fall distribution book and the staff is currently working hard on creating the 2026 CHS yearbook.

Cameron McClellan, Staff Writer
Cameron is a freshman here at Carterville High School, and he got inspired to do HS Publications by his sister, Nevaeh McClellan who was in the class for her whole 4 years of high school.  Cameron just really wanted to be included in this class, because he was interested in the fact that he could help make the yearbook and get to take photos that could possibly get into the yearbook.
