It was that time of year, friends and family surrounded by what they love most. It turned out to be another great year at the Duquoin State Fair.

On Saturday before the fair started, they had a pageant held by Tammy Conley. Tammy has been a part of the Duquion State Fair for around six years, and has been a pageant director for even longer. She is the person to go to if you ever need a hand or have a question.

On Friday, all the events started to happen. The Fair started with the Parade at 6. The parade lasted around an hour, with the help of Tammy and the Duquoin State Fair Board, and it all ran smoothly. After  the parade, there were concerts, a rodeo, and more. Sophomore Kendyl Bilderback said, “My favorite thing to do at the fair is ride the roller coasters, especially the spinny ones and to eat fair food.

The concerts opened with David Lee Roth, Little River Band, Tesla, Jake Owen, Tucker Wetmore, and Gabby Barrett. All of these music artists/bands appeared August 23-September 1.  This included other attractions like the Motocross Race, the Pageant, Harness Racing, and plenty of food.

Every year, the fair gains more events than the past years. Senior Cameron Gossett said, “My favorite thing to do at the fair is ride rides with my friends and siblings, and watch all of the events. The events are what brings the most people because they mean so much to the Local State Fair.”

Last year, there were a few events that were cancelled due to a water leak in the pipes near the area of the concerts.

Due to the numerous events and opportunities to spend time with friends and family, sophomore Kylie Davie said, “My favorite memory is of when me and my best friend, Kendyl Bilderback got a sundae and ate it within walking from the ice cream stand to the ride across the way.”

The Du Quoin State Fair isn’t just another summer event. It’s a tradition built on memories, laughter, and community pride. Families, friends, and neighbors come together year after year to celebrate what makes southern Illinois so special. The fair creates moments attendees will cherish forever, reminding them that the best parts of summer are found in togetherness, fun, and timeless traditions.
