CARTERVILLE – On April 15, the Carterville Lions faced the Murphysboro Red Devils in a home matchup, securing the 15-0 win. The Lions started the game hot and united to form an excellent game with teamwork and powerful hitting.
Junior Savannah Gibbs gave the Lions the early momentum that set the pace of the game. Gibbs’s inside-the-park home run gave the Lions a 5-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Consistent hitting from Lainy Workman, Emilyn Ford, and a double from Addison Wright scored the Lions additional points that gained them a 9-0 lead. A triple by Cadence Phillips and a home run by Taryn Ford that put the Lions up 11-0 heading into the fourth.
The Lions offense didn’t stop then, it rallied into the fourth. Reese Haust brought in an early run, then Makaya Crickman’s RBI put the Lions up 14-0. Sophia Badiu finalized the Lions’ scoring with a single that made the final score 15-0.
