CARTERVILLE – On March 25th, the Lady Lions Soccer Team secured a 4-3 victory over the Sikeston Bulldogs. The Lady Lions are an exceptional force that stands valiant in their conference, highlighting their 2-0 record and outstanding determination.
As the match began, Carterville stayed aggressive early and remained forceful on Sikeston’s half of the field. Through exceptional passing and teamwork, Alea Ruiz put the Lions on the board first up 1-0. But the momentum didn’t stop then, Alea’s sister, Alissa Ruiz opened up the second goal of the evening and led the Lions into a dominating first half. The Bulldogs, however, rallied back. An exceptional goal to close the half closed the lead to 2-1 heading into the break.
Carrying their influence, the Bulldogs maintained their control. An initial goal in the opening minutes tied the score 2-2. The Lions were forced back on their half of the field, holding a defense, and switching their lineup to stop this force. But this change wasn’t enough, Sikeston continued their streak and took the lead, now up 3-2 against the Lions.
The Lions needed to change everything, and the leadership and teamwork of the girls allowed a huge change in motivation. A rallied unity was created, and the Lions tied the score, making it 3-3 into the last 20 minutes. Pushing the Bulldogs back once more, the Lions scored yet another goal in the final minutes, taking the lead 4-3. Just needing to defend, Carterville’s adjustments were now able to stop the drive of the Bulldogs, and the Lions prevailed, securing their victory.
