Lady Lions Overcome The Lady Black Cats

CARTERVILLE – On Wednesday, February 12, the Carterville Lions outlasted the Goreville Black Cats in a thrilling matchup. The Lady Lions took the 49-34 win and maintained a strong finish to their season.

Carterville held the lead early and never looked back. The Black Cats were left trailing and fell behind 19-11 at the end of the first quarter. In the Black Cats’ hopes of bringing the lead closer, the Lady Lions prevailed under the leadership of Senior Emma Rodgers and went into halftime ahead 24-15.

Both Rodgers and Maya Toliver remained fashionable. Toliver led the season’s average at 9.7 points, with Rodgers falling just behind at 9.4. Both showed their determination in this matchup. Towards the end of the third quarter, the Lady Lions pulled away and finished 37-23 heading into the fourth. Carterville controlled and dominated their matchup, knowing they must finish strong heading into the postseason.

The Lady Lions will face Anna Jonesboro in regional play-ins on Saturday, February 15. With everything to gain and everything to lose, will the Lady Lions be able to overcome the odds?
