Boys Basketball Win in Low-Scoring Game vs Chester

CARTERVILLE- The Carterville boys basketball team took on the Chester Yellow Jackets in a non-conference match up on Tuesday January 28th. The Lions would end up winning in a low scoring game 38-24.

The first quarter would start off slow offensively for both teams. Sophomore Maddox Gulley scored the first points with a floater from the paint giving them the lead 2-1. The defense would be the story for most of the first quarter until Junior Kaden Wilson would hit a big three sparking the Lions offense. The quarter would end with the Lions ahead 10-3.

With the Yellow Jackets still struggling to get points on the board, the Lions took advantage and stayed on the gas. Senior Logan Ingle would sub in and force many turnovers while contributing on the offensive side as well. Chester would start to inch their way back but Kaden Wilson would make another three point shot bumping up the score for the Lions 22-12 heading into halftime.

The third quarter would be different than the first two with both teams finding their stride on the offensive side. The third quarter would end and the Lions would still be ahead 31-23. The Lions would hold the Yellow Jackets to one point in the fourth quarter.

The game would be sealed after Junior Colten Hawkins would score plus the foul boosting the lead to 35-23. Then right after he would get a steal and make a fast break layup finishing up the scoring for the offense ending the game 38-24 Lions win.
