After three years of coaching Carterville Junior High Baseball, Reid Cure has been named head coach of the high school program starting this spring. Cure is originally from Frisco, Texas and after a few years of working in collegiate athletics, he decided to move to Carterville and become an English teacher.

Cure wanted to continue his passion for baseball. So, he became a coach for the Desmet Jesuit in 2015 after while completing his bachelor’s degree in Sport Management. Cure has always had a love for baseball.  During his college years, he played two years, “I started college ball because I loved baseball and wanted to keep going.”

After a while, Cure left like it was time to stop, “My time came to an end because I needed to work.” According to him, “ I left and felt good about the end of my playing career.”

However, his baseball playing career came to an end when he completed his college career and started coaching while finishing his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management. Throughout his years, he has coached:

Under Cure’s guidance, the junior high team achieved commendable success, racking up a 47-18 record over three seasons. They also took a State Championship in Fall of 2023.

As the spring season approaches, players are eager to start training under Coach Cure’s mentorship. “ I really do look forward to having Mr. Cure as our new coach. I can’t wait to see where he will take us,” explained senior Logan Ingle.

The high school community looks forward to supporting the boys’ baseball team as they embark on this new chapter. “ I cannot wait for this baseball season. Especially with a new coach, I know it will definitely be a lot better of a season and hopefully less stressful,” said a player’s mom.
