During this holiday season, each family brings their holiday cheer in more ways than one. Some travel to visit others, while others may stay home and enjoy their time off. Each household has its traditions, whether it was passed down for generations, or changed as time goes by.
Most celebrate with many different types of food, varying from gingerbread cookies to eggnog. Junior Katie Yocum says “My favorite food we serve at Christmas dinner has to be the mashed potatoes or Mac and cheese. Even though we have them at Thanksgiving, they still bring the holiday feeling.”
Another tradition that is commonly done during Christmas time is decorating all around the house, inside and outside. Sophomore Caydence Walton says “My mom likes to put random Christmas things all over the house. You look any direction and there seems to be a different type of decoration.”
Decoration not only brings Christmas cheer but also brings light into any home.
Gift exchange between friends and family also may play a factor in a family’s Christmas routine. Everyone stands around the Christmas tree, enjoying quality time and showing gratitude to one another. “Me and my friends like to play Secret Santa for Christmas, which makes gift-giving more fun. I like the mystery and it brings us all together while we try to find out who got each gift,” says senior Sophie Poletti.
As the holiday season approaches, each family prepares their home in different ways, but each has one thing in common. The joy and light that the holidays bring brightens every heart and brings connections among loved ones.
