Lions Defeat the Eagles: A Thrilling Home Opener

CARTERVILLE – On December 10th, the Lions held their home opener against the Vienna Eagles. The community gathered early in support, awaiting the divine potential of a promising lineup. As the buzzer sounded and teams gathered, the game was officially underway.

The Lions’ starting lineup consisted of Maddox Gulley, Kaden Wilson, Alex Kimbrough, Colton Hawkins, and Parker Poole. After tipoff, both sides rallied in competition, but the Lions took the first score from a layup by Poole. Holding the early momentum, Colton Hawkins quickly stood out in a dominating performance. Multiple steals and early points gave the Lions a 24-18 lead, with Hawkins holding 12 in the first half.

Coming out of the locker room, the Eagles were prepared and motivated. Quick scoring gave Vienna a 25-24 lead early into the third quarter. Alternating drives kept the game close, but a continued push from Hawkins and a prevailing layup from Alex Kimbrough put the Lions up 46-43 with 1 minute left. Time slowed, and the Eagles unified but fell short of an astounded defense. The Lions took the victory 49-45 and solidified themselves as a strong team looking ahead to the season.

The Lions will face the Herrin Tigers on December 13th at home. A rival game, skills colliding, and something to prove to everyone.
