As Christmas is approaching, look at some of the traditions people do all around the world!

Christmas is a huge celebration across the world. Although a worldwide holiday that follows some of the same traditions, Christmas is celebrated in many different way depending on things such as culture, heritage and traditions passed on by their parents and grandparents. 

Science teacher Mr. Davis describes his traditions that he has with his family, “My family and I love Christmas and we have many traditions.  Some of my favorite traditions are watching all of our favorite Christmas movies and waking up at 6:00am to open presents on Christmas Morning.”

Some other popular traditions include, leaving cookies out for Santa on Christmas Eve night, stockings, and elf on the shelf. 

Freshman Peyton Applehans said, “My favorite Christmas traditions are when me and my family all have Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve, and once everyone leaves me, my siblings and parents all sit in the living room and watch the “Polar Express” before we go to sleep. One of my favorite traditions is the Christmas pickle. The night of Christmas eve a pickle ornament is hidden on the tree. The first person to find it the next morning gets an extra present from Santa.”

Senior Carolann Iaccino comes from an Italian heritage. She said “During Christmas dinner, instead of eating things like ham, we eat Italian sausage and roast beef.” 

According to Wanderlust Travel Magazine, some other Christmas traditions from around the world are things such as, feasting on KFC instead of a “traditional” Christmas dinner in Japan. Or Krampus, a horned beast who snatches up children who got put on Santa’s naughty list in Austria.

Wanderlust Travel Magazine also adds that Norway, they have a tradition of hiding all of their brooms so that Christmas night, the “Witches” won’t steal them and fly around! And in Ukraine they place spider-web shaped ornaments on their trees due to an old folktale of this widowed women who could not afford to decorate her tree. The next morning they woke up to their tree “decorated” with spider webs.

Christmas is one of the most magical times of the year which is celebrated in many different ways all over the world. Despite the different traditions, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year!
