This season, the 2024-2025 Color Guard team had a complete turn-a-round compared to last season. Color Guard captain junior Cheyenne Cockrum said, “compared to the previous seasons, we have had one of the best seasons Carterville Guard has had in a long time.”
Starting off strong at their first competition, the band overall placed third out of 5 bands. This was a great change from last year, as the band was not able to perform their full show last season, leading to last place in this competition. At the same competition, this season, they also gained the title of best drum majors for their division. With this success starting off the season, the band showed more potential now rather than last year.
Color Guard coach Jessica Cook said, “I am very proud with where we have gotten as a team this year. I do not think that Guard has been able to get where we are in years.”
Mrs. Cook goes on to explain that last year, Color Guard was not able to put their full show on the field until their last performance. The lack of choreography was a big setback for the team, leading to these unfortunate circumstances.
With putting the full show on the field the first show this year, the Guard team is overjoyed with their hard work and dedication. Sophomore Chloe Martin said, “I had so much this year. I am glad I was able to get the opportunity to go through this season with new people I met along the way.”
This season, the band also placed second at two competitions, an additional best Drum Major award, as well as best Color Guard Caption. With these awards, the band will officially end their season at the Lights Fantastic Parade in Carbondale on December 7.
