CARTERVILLE – The Carterville Lions wrapped up their football season in a devastating round 1 loss against the Mt. Zion Braves, 42-21.
The Lions started off the game strong when senior Chance Myers was handed the ball for a 35 yard run, moving closer to 1000 rushing yards in his career.
When asked about his emotions during the game Myers explained, “My goal was to have a good season and we went 7-3 so I can’t complain. We made playoffs and won the conference. Obviously we didn’t have the best outcome, but we just gotta move forward.”
Moving forward, each team had an array of fumbles, and both took turns recovering.
Mt. Zion scored the first touchdown of the game with 30 seconds left in the first quarter, then followed up with another eight minutes before the half, leaving the score 14-0 Mt. Zion.
After the Braves scored their third touchdown, the Lions finally retaliated and brought the score to 21-7 Mt. Zion.
The two teams went back and forth in the second quarter, leaving the field for a halftime score of 28-14 Mt. Zion.
The Braves continued to score on Carterville, not letting up for a second. They finished strong and advanced to round two.
