Laura Trant, a chs freshman, started crocheting at the end of grade five when the summer had just begun. She had nothing to do, no games to play, and had only made one friend.
So, she did what any kid would do and searched the internet for something to do, that’s when she found the art of crocheting. Laura had heard about crocheting, but she didn’t know how to do it or how to start, so the next week she convinced her parents to take her to Walmart, to get the supplies she needed to start, and started her journey with crocheting.
It took Laura a few days to get used to the feel of crocheting, but she said that it took over the span of a year to find the type of yarn that she is most comfortable with using as well as what hook size she prefers when making different projects with; as of now, Laura prefers Brunette and Red Heart yarn when crocheting.
Laura said, “Crocheting is extremely time consuming but when you’ve finished a project you just think ‘Oh my God, I made that’ and get this rush of adrenaline and happiness knowing you made something so cool to you.”
Over time, Laura has sold a few things, such as few octopuses to a friend, but anything else she makes mostly goes to her family and friends as gifts. As of recently, Laura is participating in the craft fair at the high school this coming May.
Laura said that her favorite thing she has made was for her best friend as a gift for promotion. It was a Neapolitan ice cream themed turtle, to go along with a blanket she made for her in 7th grade. Laura said “It was massive and time consuming, but it looked amazing at the end.”
Laura Trant started her journey of crocheting by being bored, looking for something fun to do, so she turned to the internet and found crocheting.
