Titan Take Down

CARTERVILLE – The Lady Lions softball team took on the No. 1 ranked team in class 3A the Glenwood Titans, in a double header Saturday afternoon. The Lions left the field 2-0 on the day, winning game one 5-2 and game two 3-2. 

Game one

The Lady Lions came out swinging in the first inning, starting with a 2-0 lead. Sophomore Colbie Bennett singled on a line drive to center to start the frame. Senior Amayah Doyle was walked, which forced Bennett to second.

The very next play, senior Maddie Rosenbery hit a double on a line drive to left field bringing home Bennett and Doyle, bringing the score to 2-0 Lions to end the first inning.

The Titans quickly answered with a run of their own in the next inning. In the top of the third, the Titans evened the score at 2-2.

However, the Lions were a force to reckon with. In the next inning, Doyle was hit by a pitch which put her on first. Rosenbery hit a double, moving Doyle to third. Senior Lacie Carr bunted which brought home Doyle and moved Rosenbery to third. The score was now 3-2 Lions.

The Lady Lions did not stop there. Sophomore Taryn Ford came up to the plate with no outs and runners on second and third. Ford grounded out but brought home Rosenbery and moved Carr to third. The final run came from Carr after senior Karson Caudill hit a RBI double, finalizing the score at 5-2 Lions.

Game two

In the second game. the Lions did not get started until the bottom of the third. Sophomore Savannah Gibbs led off for the Lions and hit a ground ball, reaching on a Titan error and advancing to second on the same error. A few plays later, as Senior Kennedy Rushing was at the plate, Gibbs stole third. Rushing hit a fly ball to center and Gibbs put the Lions on the board. 

Doyle hit a ground ball to center and moved to second on the throw as Rushing advanced to third. The very next at bat, Rosenbery singled on a ground ball to left field which brought home Rushing and moved Doyle to third. 

The final run from the Lions came as Doyle stole home, ending the inning 3-0 Lions. The Titans did not answer back until the top of the fifth with a two run home run. Finalizing the score at 3-2 Lions
