CARTERVILLE—The Carterville Lions baseball team took on the Pinckneyville Panthers, which led to a close game that kept the fans on their feet. The game stayed close until a big 7th inning that pushed the Lions ahead 10-6.
The first inning started rough for the Lions as junior Drew Barrington allowed two runs, putting the Panthers ahead 2-0. The Lions’ offense was not hot early as they went through the fourth inning; they only scored two runs while Pinkneyville topped them with four.
Heading into the 5th inning, the Lions were trailing and needed a breakthrough. And that’s exactly what they delivered, scoring three crucial runs to turn the tide in their favor, leading 5-4 into the 6th inning. The Panthers retaliated with 2 runs in the top of the 6th, but the Lions fought back with a run of their own, tying the game at 6-6 going into the 7th.
The Lions showed their true strength in the seventh inning, scoring an impressive four runs that not only gave them the lead but also secured their victory with a final score of 10-6.
