CARTERVILLE- The Carterville Lions soccer team took on the Massac County Patriots for a highly anticipated Tuesday night SIRR Ohio division matchup. Going into the night, the Patriots led the conference with a 3-0 record. The Lions went on to win the game 7-0, with four of their goals coming from freshman Lyla Seaman.
The game started and stayed in the Lions’ favor as Seaman came for blood, scoring three of her four goals in the first half. The Patriots struggled to keep the Lions’ offense off of their half of the field.
Later in the half, junior Madison Shaw also made her presence known by scoring a goal right before halftime. Seaman and Shaw combined for four points, sending the Lions into halftime up 4-0. The scoring didn’t end after halftime. The Lions stayed on the gas and scored three more goals, another one from Seaman, one from senior Sydne Congiardo, and their final point came from senior Guadalupe Sebastian.
This win wasn’t just about their offense; the Lion defense was dominant, keeping sophomore goalie Kylie Filson’s perfect season alive. Thanks to the Lions’ dominance on both sides of the ball, they went on to win the game 7-0, gaining their second conference win.
After the game, when asked about her haul, Seaman said, “It was really great. I got help from my teammates, which was good; they were all so encouraging, which helped us play really well today. I’m so proud of the girls.”
The Soccer team will play again on April 4th against Harrisburg. For more Carterville sports updates, follow @Cartervilleath on Instagram and X.
