CARTERVILLE- The Lady Lions started their season off with a smashing win against the West Frankfort Redbirds. They led for the majority of the game, ultimately ending with a 59-23 win.
Senior, Amayah Doyle started the Lions leading onslaught with a free throw. Khamari Jackson followed with a 3-point shot making the score 4-2. Jackson continued to dominate, ending with 12 points in the first. They had a steady lead going into the second quarter, 19-2.
They followed up in the next quarter with the same mindset. Only allowing 4 more points from the Redbirds, while scoring another 19.
The Lions continued to dominate into the second half, with Doyle completing her first double-double, with 28 points and 18 rebounds.
In the fourth, Lions underclassmen ruled the court. Freshman Layla Yates started it off with a 2-pointer and then ended the game with a 3-point shot. Lillian Leadingham, Savanah Gibbs, and Maya Toliver all had assists.
