The girls golf team would say it’s been a pretty good season; despite losing most of their games, this year’s group of girls have learned to work together really well, and nobody has argued amongst the team. This season has been one of the more difficult for the girls, most of the team is new to this sport and is still learning the rules and how to play.
The girls golf team, unfortunately, has been scoring higher than most teams in our region. The girl’s head coach is Adrian Brown, and her dad is assistant coach, David Brown. One of the best moments this season was improving on their team score at the Nashville Invite from the previous year.
Before each game, the girls will take a few practice swings at the range or on the grass. They also will talk amongst the other Carterville girls about the upcoming match. Sophomore Ash Keim said their favorite club to practice with is ” one of my hybrids. It’s 28 degrees.”
Sophomore girls golf member Macie Clarck said she decided to join the golf team because ” I have been playing golf for a couple of years, and I used to be a swimmer. But, I just kinda got burnt out and played golf once with my mom and really enjoyed it.”
The season for the boys golf team has been going very well. The boys get along well, and some older boys will help the younger ones get to practice. The boy’s team has been scoring well and competing well with the other teams.
Unlike the girls team, the boys team has had more experienced players with all the grades. Coach Harrell has only taken a few boys to each match, but when there are practice days and no games, he helps the boys who do not play in the matches as much. Before each match, the boys usually split up, half going to the putting green and the other half going to the range to get a few swings in. Senior Connor Dixon also said “I don’t really have an inspiration, I just kinda picked it up myself; I have a grandpa and an uncle who play it.”
Senior Hunter Ridgeway said his senior season has “started off pretty rough and inconsistent, I [have] started to get the hang of it with a lot of time and practice.
The boys and girls teams continue their seasons with conference play this week and regionals starting next week.
