Doyle Triples to Change the Game

CARTERVILLE-  The Lion softball team faced off against the Carmi-White County Bulldogs and came out on top, 3-0, winning a pitching duel that lasted through the 5th inning.

Freshman Cadence Phillips was the starting pitcher for the Lions. Phillips didn’t allow any runs and only gave up one hit the entire game.

Offensively the Lions had no hits until Doyle’s triple in the fifth inning changed the course of the game.

Preceding Doyle’s three-bagger, Kendall McCalla and Sadie Ziegler both walked allowing two runners to be in scoring position. Doyle ended the 5-inning drought with a triple in the left-center gap, driving in the first two runs of the game.

To add on, Lacie Carr drove in Karson Caudill in the sixth to give the Lions their final run of the game.

This win moves the Lions to 3-0 on the season.

Doyle spoke about her feelings after her hit giving the glory to her teammates. “It really started with Kendall and Sadie starting it off. I knew I was in the place where I had to do my job, it felt really amazing to get it done for my team.”
