CARTERVILLE – After four straight meets on the road, the Carterville cross country runners continued their season running at home last Monday. Both boys and girls had great showings with the boys placing third and the girls keeping their streak alive with another impressive second place finish.

Junior JT Houghlan led the boys with a time of 18:15, making a new season PR and placing 16th overall. But Houghlan’s impressive finish was complimented by another Lion runner, freshman August Anderson, who sprinted up to Houghlan during the final stretch. Once Houghlan realized that he might be passed, he too began sprinting. As they came up to the finish line, Houghlan edged out the win, with less than a second of time between the pair.

Earlier before the race Houghlan said “I feel good today, looking to go off ,” which is exactly what he did.

Sophomore Molly Robertson led the girls with a 3rd overall place finish, having a time of 19:25, being almost a whole two minutes away from the other Lady Lion runners.

As a whole, the girls had four runners that finished top 20, and they all finished under 50 in a 91-person race. Only one other team was able to accomplish that. The girls also continue to stay consistent and dominant being the second best at their third straight meet.
