Tie on the Turf

CARTERVILLE – The Lady Lions hosted the Murphysboro Red Devils and closed the night on the new turf with a 1-1 draw.

The game started with a kick-off from the Red Devils which quickly turned into a Lions possession. However within the first few minutes, Murphy got in shooting range and netted a goal, making the score 1-0.

Not long after, the Lions made a break as sophomore Hillary Siemer passed the ball through the Murphy defenders right to senior Audri Strothmann who tapped in a goal, tying it at 1-1.

The remainder of the game stayed fairly neutral as the ball stayed in the middle and did not tip toward either side.

This game was the inaugural match on the new turf field and senior goalie Sydney Stuck shared how she felt about being able to play on turf for her last high school season.

“Honestly, it’s a feeling you can’t describe, you know. We worked really hard and earned this field and it’s just great to be able to play out here with all the girls.”

The Lady Lions will play again at Massac County High School on April 5 at 4:30. If you wish to keep up with girls soccer or any other spring sport check us out @CartervilleAth on Instagram and Twitter.
