Lady Lions Win First Conference Game

CARTERVILLE – The Lady Lions ran past the Du Quoin Indians on December 7th in their first conference game this season. It was a close game, with it being tied at the end of the 1st quarter. However, the Lions succeeded in the end, 59-51. 

The game started strong for Carterville with a 3-pointer by Kristin Edmonds, followed up by two more baskets from Amayah Doyle. This made the score 7-2 and the first quarter ended in a 14-14 tie.

The second quarter was when the Lions began to gain their momentum. Alecia Doyle went on a run, making 4 shots in a row. This drew the score up to 25-19 in favor of the Lions. This allowed Carterville to stay ahead and never look back. By halftime, the score was 33-30. 

The second half was a bit more of a battle. The struggle for the lead led to Du Quoin drawing 10 fouls and Carterville gaining 8. Notable shots were made by Kasha Ward and Edmonds to keep the Lions’ spirits up. The 4th quarter was a nail-biter ultimately ending in a 59-51 win. 

The ladies travel to Anna-Jonesboro on December 9. JV starts at 6:15 and varsity starts at 7:15.
