Despite the pandemic that interrupted last season, the Lady Lions had a 14-2 record, a conference title, and 3 all-conference players. This season Lady Lions have a target painted on their back and are known as the team to beat. Senior point guard Alecia Doyle says, “since we have more time to practice this season, we are able to work on more skills, and we also have more attributes to the team that will make us successful this season.”

Since last season, there has been a new addition to the Lady Lions basketball team, senior shooting guard, Kristen Edmonds. Kristen transferred to Carterville high school from Notre Dame Catholic high school to play basketball. Kristen is ready for this season and says, “this team works harder than any team that I have ever played for. Along with that we are more of a team and we are always supportive of one another.”

Head Coach Todd Rogers is also ready and excited for this season, he says, “I’m most looking forward to the opportunity to coach the team for the entire season. I took over the team about the same time the pandemic took hold so we really didn’t have a chance to implement anything new until this year. It will be interesting to see how this team progresses and where we end up. I’ve been extremely impressed by how hard the players have competed in practice tests so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing how hard they compete against opposing teams. Our team is comprised of really good athletes, but most importantly, they are really good kids that I look forward to seeing every day. They lift each other up and focus on the TEAM. If they can continue to work hard and have a great attitude, the sky’s the limit! I’m excited to see how the season plays out.”

Fans are also excited and ready to see the Lady Lions dominate this season, senior fan Ivan Jones says, “I am looking forward to going to the games because we have high expectations for the team and we believe that they will go far this season.” Make sure to show up to the Lady Lions first game at home against the West Frankfort Redbirds on Tuesday, November 16th.
