CARTERVILLE – The volleyball team won again on Tuesday night against Massac County. The first set was extremely close, ending with a score of 27-25. The second set was a little more one-sided at 25-18 in favor of the Lions.

Addie Wallace led the night’s kill count with 12 total, followed closely by Bella Mavigliano who had 11. Reece Brunken and Taylor Wallace dug out the most balls with 12 for Brunken and 18 for T. Wallace.

Set One

Set one of Tuesday’s match started out with a run by the Lions. Carterville got ahead and stayed ahead until Massac served 3 aces, gaining the momentum. This brought the score to 20-20. T. Wallace dug out 3 balls consecutively saving the team from a loss, and Mavigliano finished the set with a kill making the score 27-25.

When Brunken was asked about her thoughts on the first set she explained that “it’s always super competitive and in this game we started off really strong. We got good passes, swings, and sets. Our serves were pretty nice this set. It kind of trailed off when they got on a run, but we battled back!”

Set Two

Set two was kicked off with a missed serve from Massac. Maryn Vaughn and Amanda Howerton kept the scoring going by getting two kills. The rest of the set continued in this pattern. The Lions pushed ahead early and never looked back, finishing it at 25-18.

The team is back on the court on 9/18 against Du Quoin at home. Keep up with all Carterville Athletics at @Cartervilleath on Instagram and Twitter.
