Fall is such a wonderful time of the year. It is a perfect time for bonfires, haunted houses, pumpkin everything and so many more fun filled things. The weather is even amazing! However, this fall is a little different, because everything is socially distanced and a lot of events have been canceled. Even though events have been cancelled, everyone has found so many fun things to do. Those fun things consist of baking yummy treats, going outside in the wonderful weather, and watching the leaves fall.

Halloween parties are the place to go for all the yummy treats and candy. Haidyn Munks says, “I dressed up as a Bunny from Alice in Wonderland.”  A lot of people dressed up and go over to a family or friends house.

This year a lot has happened, and it has been hard to socialize in 2020. On the topic of dressing up, there were a lot of cool costumes this year. Cheyann Flora celebrated Halloween this year by having a custom contest as well as a Halloween party with some friends. Cheyann Flora says “ My friends and I had a bonfire and party for Halloween. Even during tough time,s it’s important to have fun with friends.”

Fall is also an awesome time for going on hikes with your family.  It’s even better because the leaves are changing colors, and it’s getting colder. Southern Illinois falls can be cold, hot, or right in between. One thing that a lot of people like doing in the weather is going on hikes; it is perfect because you get to go outside and have family time. Nick Brown has been on several hikes and he has enjoyed them a lot. Nick says, “I like hiking because Southern Illinois has very beautiful scenery around.”

What’s fall without pumpkins? Well, a lot of fall activities include pumpkin patches, pumpkin carvings, and pumpkin contests. Covid has really messed up plans for the upcoming holidays. Kristen Jordan’s family has worked their way around covid by staying home watching non-scary Halloween movies and carving pumpkins with family. Kristen says, “The part I enjoyed the most was helping my younger  brother who had never done it before and seeing his reaction to the process.”
