A Roaring Good Time

The students of Carterville High School caught a glimpse of The Roaring Twenties on Saturday, April 27th. Showcasing the biggest fashion event of the year, an overflow of beautiful dresses hit the stage, leaving the crowd in awe. Black and gold decorations filled the auditorium and community center, setting the scene.

The Prom Court took stage directly after each couple walked in Promenade. The junior attendants consisted of six girls: Paige Hunt, Olivia Cripps, Zoe Zimbro, Madison Burkey, Alaina Reno and Jeniah Thompson. The were escorted by Rafe Tuttle, Carson Pearson, Luke Busby, Nathan Barrett, Garnett Peach, and Austin Garbe. Each attendant was elected by their fellow classmates. The 2019 Prom King & Queen were Luke Busby and Jeniah Thompson. When asked how it feels to be Queen of the her class as Prom royalty, Jeniah Thompson responded that “Its a honor being queen of my class, I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for me.”

Congratulations to all attendees!

The dance was then held at the local community center immediately following the promenade from 8-11:30pm. Just a short car ride over from CHS, many students waited to enter the building, turning their admission ticket in for a lifetime of memories. Many juniors were excited with much anticipation for their first prom, while at the same time, for many Seniors it was a bittersweet last. Senior,Luke Anderson remarked, “It’s crazy that this is already my last high school dance. I think it’s safe to say I saved the best one for last.”

Of course, what would a school dance be without the most important part, the DJ? Many students were skeptical of the highly anticipated event. Carterville High School is overwhelmingly known to kill the tunes when it come to bad words or music that indicates provocative dancing. As the night started the dance floor was empty and awkward, but as soon as “No Hands” by Waka Flocka filled the speakers the couples and crowds rushed to the middle. “I’d say the Prom music was good; they really stepped it up and played some of the popular songs. This was probably my favorite dance so far,” exclaimed Senior Bethany Akinduro.

The 2019/1920’s Prom was “A Roaring Good Time!” The food, the fashion and the fiery dance moves made this event an unforgettable experience for all who attended.
