Taylor Jones, Staff Writer

Tall. Slender. Adolescent. Senior Austin Knight has earned this issue’s All Star Athlete Award. Austin is a part of the cross country team and is going to be a part of track in the Spring. During an interview with Austin, he was asked specific questions about the cross country season so far. On Saturday, September 2nd, Austin ran three miles in fifteen minutes and thirty-four seconds at a meet in Granite City. Knight says that he is currently working towards beating that time for three miles. Austin also placed first at a meet in Sparta and Duquoin. Austin was asked, “Overall, how do you think the boys team is going to do this year?” He responded by saying, “ I think we are going to do very well this year. This is the best team we have had in a very long time.To my knowledge the Carterville Boy’s team has never once made it to state, and I think that we can do that this year”. Knight’s year is going well, especially concerning college recruitment. He has been recruited by Illinois State, Bradley University, and University of Tennessee in Martin. He hopes to commit by the end of November. Lastly, we questioned what Austin does for training. “ In the summer I do a lot of mileage. I ran sixty miles a week, but now I am down to about forty five to fifty miles a week. I also do core training a couple times a week, along with biking”. Austin has worked very hard in this sport and is proven to be a great athlete not only by his time’s but by his constant determination. Austin is truly the Knight in shining armor of Carterville High School.
